Viva Magenta in Landscape Architecture

March 08, 2023

Vivid, bright pink, vibrates with vim and vigor is how Pantone describes the color of the year, Viva Magenta. This color can be found in many flora throughout the landscape in different forms and shapes. The vibrant color is produced by a combination of carotenoids and flavonoids, which give the plant its distinctive hue.

We see this hue in the hibiscus as part of a landscape architect’s palette that can strike a staccato in the landscape. It can also be seen in the heritage feel of Hollyhocks, which symbolizes the circle of life and abundance. What other plants can you think of that evoke this color of the year?

Using Viva Magenta through designed space in landscape architecture can be a great way to add energy and life to any outdoor space. With some thoughtful planning and consideration of complementary colors, lighting, and accents, this bold hue can help create a unique and beautiful landscape.
