Intreegue Garden of the Month:
Discover Glenstone: Art, Architecture & Nature!
The Intreegue team had the pleasure of visiting Glenstone for a grounds tour with on-site horticulturalists this time last year. Touring Glenstone is a unique experience that unveils the seamless integration of art, architecture, and nature. It offers inspiration for creating captivating outdoor spaces that engage visitors. The museum and sculpture garden also provides a platform to explore innovative approaches to sustainability.
In addition to an assembly of post-World War II artworks, Glenstone offers almost 300 acres of landscape integrated with architecture and art. You are encouraged to engage directly with the art, architecture, and landscape and interpret Glenstone in your own way. There is minimal signage.

The staff follow an organic approach to landscaping using alternatives to harsh chemicals and maintain their own composting station which produces fertilizer and soil amendment for use throughout the grounds.
Over the past decade, more than 13,000 trees and thousands of shrubs, annual and perennial grasses, and flowers have been planted on site. Only native species are planted which require the fewest resources to maintain and provide appropriate food and habitat for local fauna.
Glenstone is home to several distinct aquatic ecosystems as well as three underground cisterns with the capacity to hold nearly one million gallons of water. The staff constantly monitors the moisture of all soils to conserve as much water as possible and only supply additional irrigation when and where it is needed.

Nestled on the grounds, The Gallery museum building hosts changing exhibitions and includes a limited palette of natural materials to exist harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. The Pavilions offers an additional exhibition space that features changing exhibitions and rooms dedicated to single-artist installations. The rooms are connected by a glass breezeway that looks out onto an expansive water court which houses seasonally changing plant life.

Admission is always free at Glenstone and we highly encourage you to consider scheduling a visit here.
