Upcoming in just a little over a week is the BBJ’s Mentoring Monday Event!
I’m honored to be serving once again as a mentor for the Baltimore Business Journal’s Mentoring Monday. As part of the program, the BBJ posed a series of ‘pre-questions’ to mentors about leadership and growth. Two of them especially resonated with me – see the dialogue below.
How do you approach decision-making when the stakes are high?
When stakes are high, I quickly SWOT the decision and mentally role-play potential outcomes. Experience has taught me to trust my instincts—but always pair them with level-headed analysis. I avoid shooting from the hip and focus on informed, intentional choices
What’s a lesson you learned from a mentor that shaped your career?
My father has been my greatest mentor and champion. He taught me not to fear the “what ifs.” Failure isn’t final—it’s learning. If you fall, the only direction left is up. That mindset gave me the confidence to keep grinding and take smart, strategic risks.
What I love about Mentoring Monday is this: mentorship isn’t just for early-career professionals. No matter your age, title, or level of success, we all benefit from having mentors—and from being one. Early on, you need guidance. Mid-career, you need perspective. As a leader, you need trusted sounding boards—and the responsibility to pour into others.
Mentorship isn’t a phase. It’s a lifelong exchange. Jump in feet first!
