Baltimore Business Journal Mentoring Monday Celebration Recap

We are proud of our founder for being recognized as the BBJ 2024 Mentor of the Year, and look forward to celebrating those accomplishments this month as we celebrate Women’s History, especially today as International Women’s Day. As Colleen mentioned, “the award is not about me, it’s about the next generation and how we step up to the plate and help.”  “I was deeply excited to be able to bring my daughter to the Biz Mentoring event to let her see other women (and her Mama) in a place of leadership and outreach.”

Here are a few snippets from Colleen’s speech… “Remember, everyone in this room, did not start at POINT B, we started at POINT A!  That right there has been a big equalizing thought for me, if I think I’m not doing enough, I’m not growing fast enough, remember we all had to start somewhere… and this goes without say, but being a mentor isn’t merely an addition to one’s resume; it’s a commitment to genuine, impassioned guidance. Conversely, as mentees, we must take ownership of our own growth, mentorship is not something that’s done to you, it something that you do for yourself, i.e. INVEST IN YOURSELF!  who inspires you, how do you inspire yourself? who is your circle, who can you call for a quick chat?  who can give you a pep talk?  who can play devil’s advocate?  who can just simply listen, a mentor does not need to stop at just one person, garner multiple perspectives.”
