Intreegue Garden of the Month:

Atlanta Botanical Garden

This past March, I had the opportunity to visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden with my CREW CEO Council—and it did not disappoint. We’re thrilled to feature it as our Garden of the Month for May!

Tucked in the heart of the city, the garden is a true gem that left me full of inspiration and fresh design ideas (always a good thing for a designer!). From the moment I stepped inside, it was clear that artistry and nature we apparent and entangled in a nuanced harmony —every garden space was paired with thoughtful, integrated art.

One of my favorite stops was the Orchid House, which featured several glass-blown sculptures nestled among vibrant blooms. As an orchid enthusiast (a love that began when I cared for the orchid house at UMD’s greenhouses in college), this was a total dream. The tropical colors reminded me of my time in Costa Rica seeing wild orchids.  A standout piece was the glass-blown corpse flower by artist Jason Gamrath, a stunningly lifelike interpretation of this rare botanical wonder.

From there, the Woodland Walk guided us to the awe-inspiring Earth Goddess, a living sculpture created by Mosaïcultures Internationales de Montréal. With cascading green hair and an outstretched hand spilling water (though the water feature wasn’t running during my visit), she’s a breathtaking homage to the power of nature and now a permanent fixture in the garden.

Spring was in full bloom, showcasing snowball viburnum, flowering camellias, and one of my personal favorites—Carolina silverbells. Their delicate, bell-shaped blossoms created a magical canopy, and the spring-flowering trees were at peak performance, each one putting on a spectacular show.

We wrapped up our tour in the Levy Parterre, a formal garden inspired by 17th-century French knot gardens. At its center: a striking blue and white glass fountain by Dale Chihuly. (Put a Chihuly in any garden and it instantly adds a wow factor!) Designed in 2004, the sculpture captures the essence of water, ice, and sky, adding structure and sparkle to the refined symmetry of the formal beds.

Stay tuned for more garden journeys and seasonal inspiration!
