Welcome back to What’s Blooming Wednesday! Nature brings us exciting new shapes and colors every week - on Wednesdays, we hand pick our favorites and feature them here! Check out what’s blooming this week and what you might see in your neighborhood!
Have you seen the Baptisia blooming? Also known as 'twilite prairieblues', the false indigo a great native. We love how it fills in and has a subtle 'smokey' color. This baptisia is a hybrid with great height and volume for the garden. It's quite drought-tolerant and looks great in August (when other plants tend to look 'really thirsty'). Also, you'll notice in August very interesting and striking seed pods...stay tuned for those!
We're also seeing the County Cork Bearded Iris. This beautiful plant skyrockets to over 3 feet tall with an impressive show of giant blooms. We are in love with this iris - a real show stopper! Plus, deer won't eat it - which is great for Maryland gardens! If you're interested in adding one of these to your garden, we recommend buying from Breck's - BONUS: it's actually on sale right now!
