Welcome back to What’s Blooming Wednesday! Nature brings us exciting new shapes and colors every week - on Wednesdays, we hand pick our favorites and feature them here! Check out what’s blooming this week and what you might see in your neighborhood!
This week, we're seeing the Annabelle Hydrangea or Smooth Hydrangea. We love love love this hydrangea - we love the huge white blooms and we find that this particular hydrangea has some of the strongest branches. Pruning tip: this hydrangea blooms on new wood, so leave it until early March and then cut back old wood about 6". This provides winter interest with the dried blooms. This hydrangea can be pruned back hard if needed.
This week, we're also seeing the Astilbe Younique 'Silvery Pink'. This ethereal perennial provides beautiful 'misty' blooms in a shady area... and deer don't particularly like it, so that is a plus for the Maryland area!
